A Dragons roster that was short on depth for the game were able to pull out a gritty win over Garrett College 72-64. The win brings the Dragons overall record to 7-1 including a 2-0 conference record.
HCC got off to a quick start asÂ
Sam Heisig (Glenelg, MD, Glenelg HS) scored 6 of her 19 points in the first quarter to get an early lead that got as high as 11. Garrett started to come back in the 2nd quarter and were able to take the lead in the 3rd as the Dragons lack of players became troublesome asÂ
Cindy Tombini (Olney, MD, Good Counsel HS)Â and
London Hilton (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill HS) were suspended for this game.Â
Lis Parks (Columbia, MD, St. Johns HS) was on her way to another game of piling up every statistic other than points until a 2nd quarter injury caused her to miss the rest of the game. That left the Dragons with only 6 players which was made even more troublesome whenÂ
Carrie Miller (Fulton, MD, Reservoir HS) fouled out early in the 4th quarter. The five remaining Dragons played the rest of the game in spectacular fashion as they outscored their opponents 23-10 in the final stanza.Â
Heisig was forced to be the inside force defensively for HCC, and she prevailed with 15 defensive rebounds and 18 overall along with 5 assists, 3 steals, and one huge block as well as leading the team in points.Â
Lauren Thompson (Columbia, MD, Oakland Mills HS) followed up an 0-7 first half by scoring 16 points in the 2nd half and
Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) had another double-double game with 18 points and 11 rebounds along with 5 assists, 2 steals and a block.Â
Ebony Anderson (Baltimore, MD, Catonsville HS) had her most productive game of the season adding 12 points and 6 rebounds.
The Dragons next take on conference rivals Frederick CC on Saturday December 12th, tip-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
