Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Starts Season with 1-0 Win

The 2015-2016 season kicked off to great success for the Dragons as the Women's Soccer team pulled out a 1-0 win over Cape Fear CC. In the first game of the weekend tournament, the Dragons started off strong against the hosts of the tournament as Sophomore Elisa Mobley (Dayton, MD, Glenelg HS) put in the only goal of the game.

Cape Fear came out strong in the first half, out shooting the Dragons 5-1 in the opening period, but HCC made their only first half shot count. Veteran goalkeeper
Darcey Bodziony (Columbia, MD, Athloton HS) had little trouble keeping the ball out of the net, accumulating four saves in the first half.

HCC was able to break through after just 18 minutes as a good build up play saw Freshman
Sydney Rynn-Mason (Columbia, MD, Pallotti HS) make a run down the right side. A nice diagonal pass across the box found Mobley wide open as she was able to hit a well struck ball into the near side. It was the first career collegiate point for Rynn-Mason, and Mobley will be happy to get a goal so early in the season as she scored just two all season last year.

The second half saw the Dragons put more pressure on CFCC as they out shot the Sea Devils 3-0 in the latter stanza and generally saw more possession of the ball.

A veteran defense led by
Taylor Nowaskey (Clarksville, MD, River Hill HS) and Lis Parks (Columbia, MD, St. Johns HS) was able to see out the clean sheet, although Parks left the game in the 2nd half with a lower body injury.

The Dragons next take on Oxford College of Emory University to finish the Cape Fear Invitational on 8/30 at 1:00 PM.
