After getting a glimpse of the Southern Maryland volleyball team at the Dragon Invitational, the HCC women's volleyball team traveled to La Plata and were sent home with a 3-0 defeat.
The first set was largely fruitless for the Dragons as only
Taylor Bowen (Mount Airy, MD, South Carroll HS) had more than one kill. In fact, HCC finished the first set with 7 attack errors compared to just 5 kills as the Hawks won easily 25-12.
The second set was much of the same as the Dragons had just 2 kills in the entire second set. CSM kept the HCC on the defense almost the entire time with the Dragons accumulating 15 digs in the set.
The final stanza was much improved for Howard CC as
Essence Holtzclaw (Atlanta, GA, Arundel HS),
Stephanie Bartylla (Westminster, MD, Manchester Valley HS), and Bowen had multiple kills with Bowen leading the way at five. Setter
Julia Boras (Baltimore, MD, Oakland Mills HS) was able to record 5 assists as well as the Dragons finally got some momentum going, but ultimately lost the 3rd set 25-22.
The Dragons next play this weekend while participating in the Charm City Volleyball Invitational hosted by Baltimore City Community College.
