Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

HCC Dominates Dragon Invitational

The women's soccer team put together an all-around great performance over the weekend as they defeated Nassau CC 3-0 and then went ahead 4-0 on a short-handed Middlesex CC side that was forced to forfeit at halftime.

In the Saturday game against Nassau CC, the Dragons continued to show a complete dominance of possession as they have in every contest so far this season. In fact, it only took a little over two minutes for the Dragons to get on the scoreboard as Becky Manelli (Woodstock, MD, Westminster HS) found Elisa Mobley (Dayton, MD, Glenelg HS) open for her 2nd goal of the season.

After an hour weather delay in the first half, the second half saw the Dragons come out firing. In the 48th minute, Savanna Holt (West Friendship, MD, Glenelg HS) made a streaking run down the right side and crossed it over to a wide open Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) who was able to put in her 1st goal of the year.

Ten minutes later it was Audrey Ford (Woodbine, MD, Glenelg HS) making a run through the Nassau defense and found Brittany Nixon (Columbia, MD, Oakland Mills HS) in the box as she was able to record her first of the season as well.

The Dragons defense led by Sydney Rynn-Mason (Columbia, MD, Pallotti HS), Celeste Costabile (Ellicott City, MD, River Hill HS), and Taylor Nowaskey (Clarksville, MD, River Hill HS) were dominant throughout the whole game and only allowed one shot in the entire game with that shot not being on goal. Conversely, the Dragons put on 25 shots with 15 on goal as they constantly applied pressure on their way to their 4th win of the season.

In the Sunday game, HCC took on a depleted Middlesex CC squad as they were only able to field 8 players to start the game.

HCC put in four goals in the first half as Ford, Nixon, Heather Veli (Burtonsville, MD, Blake HS), and Coughlin all got on the score sheet. Middlesex had another injury late in the first half and were unable to field a team after halftime forcing the game to end after just 45 minutes of play.

The two wins moved the Dragons to 5-1 on the season and will next travel to Frederick CC on Tuesday September 15th. Kick-off will be at 4:00 PM as the Dragons attempt to stay on top of the MD JUCO.
