Anne Arundel Tames Dragons 7-4

Anne Arundel CC traveled to Howard and showed just how potent their offense is this year, defeating the Dragons 7-4.

The Riverhawks, led Garrett McLendon's hat trick which now puts him in the lead for most goals in the conference, overpowered the HCC defense.

After AACC jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes, Dragons forward Emmanuel Wright (Columbia, MD/Mt. Hebron HS) was able to score his 3rd goal of the season with some great trickery in the box. The Riverhawks put in two more goals including McLendon's 2nd of the game as they went up 4-1 on the struggling HCC team.

It was Wright who gave the Dragons some momentum again as he was able to jump over the AACC defender and head in a beautiful cross from Walter Gonzalez (Beltsville, MD/High Point HS). The Dragons were able to get within one goal as a late 1st half goal propelled by a long through ball by Leandro Hernandez (Silver Spring, MD/Spencerville Adventist Academy) found the speedy Shaheed Twyman (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills HS) who was able to put in his first of the year.

Despite the momentum of the two late goals in the first half, it was Anne Arundel who came out of the break firing as they scored the next three goals to put the game out of reach for HCC. The Dragons were able to get one back as Alec Smith (Columbia, MD/River Hill HS) got to the base line and was able to score desite a terrible angle to shoot from.

The Dragons next play Chesapeake College on Friday September 18th at 4 PM as they look to get back to their winning ways.
