The Howard Community College Men's Soccer team pulled off another thrilling overtime victory, their second this week, this time beating Hagerstown CC 3-2.
Howard CC started off strong with a goal in just the 5th minute as a cross from
Neosystos Konstantinou (Cyprus, Ayios Antonios Lyceum) found the foot of
Emmanuel Wright (Columbia, MD, Mt. Hebron HS) for the tap-in goal. It was Wright's 12th goal of the season which is good for 2nd in the conference.Â
After that first goal, the game turned into a battle of physical play as the fouls started to rack up on both sides. Hagerstown was able to trouble goalie
Brayan Czepinski (Ellicott City, MD, Marriotts Ridge HS) a few times but to no avail.
The 2nd half started out as much of the same physical play defined the stanza. It wasn't unstil the 68th minute for another score as
Walter Gonzalez (Beltsville, MD, High Point HS) made a great run down the right side and found
Pa Lung (Myanmar, Long Reach HS) in the box. Lung, playing in just his second collegiate game for the Dragons, was able to make an immediate impact as he lobbed a shot over the Hagerstown goalkeeper that was caught out of his goal.
After that, the game really started to open up as both sides started to get corners and chances on goal. Hagerstown was able to get on the scoreboard in the 76th minute on a goal by Logan Speak. It took just two minutes for the Hawks to tie the game as Alejandro Oliart found the back of the net.
The last 13 minutes of regulation was non-stop action on both sides, highlighted by Wright taking a shot from the 18 yard line that was nicely saved by Hagerstown goalie Christian Meija with just 30 seconds left to send the game to overtime.Â
However, it took only 5 and a half minutes for the game to be decided as
Sam Rivera (Sykesville, MD, Chapelgate Christian) made a nice cross into the box from the left side and found Lung, who was determined to leave a great first impression on Dragons fans, as he volleyed the ball into the net for the game winner.Â
The Dragons will next go on the road in a critical conference game against first place Prince George's CC on Tuesday September 29th at 6 PM. Follow the live statistics of this huge game at:Â http://mdjuco.org/sports/msoc/2015-16/boxscores/20150929_vfcn.xml.Â
