Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dragons Fall Short at Prince George's

The HCC men's soccer team suffered a stinging loss to conference leader Prince George's CC, losing 2-0 in a game marked by extreme weather.

The rain was pouring from start to finish in this critical MD JUCO match, but that didn't stop the Dragons from beginning the game red hot. The high press of HCC forced the ball to stay in their offensive half for most of the opening 20 minutes. The best chance for the Dragons in this period came from a good build up play that found Jason Mitchell (Dayton, MD, Washington Christian Academy) open in the middle of the box, but his shot went just wide of the mark.

It was the Owls incredible pace at the forward position that opened the scoring as a nice through ball from Issa Kenge Mouafo found Angelo Ridore who was able to put in for his 8th goal of the season.

There was some controversy at the end of the first half as a shot by Prince George's Ridore found the back of the net, but the referee deemed the shot to have come after the first half horn had blown and therefore was disallowed.

PGCC took over the game for the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, getting a number of dangerous shots towards goalie Brayan Czepinski (Ellicott City, MD, Marriotts Ridge HS)'s net. The Dragons were able to put on the pressure at the 56th minute as a free kick by Alec Smith (Columbia, MD, River Hill HS) forced a good save from the PG keeper. Another foul by the Owls just outside of their box allowed Smith to have another powerful shot saved, but this time the rebound came to Walter Gonzalez (Beltsville, MD, High Point HS) who almost tied the game but had his shot blocked off the line by defender Celio Grice.

The Owls ultimately were able to double their lead in the 67th minute as a good build up found Kelly Marah in the box who passed it back to Urich Ndip whose long range shot found the net. The Dragons subsequently substituted four players in an attempt to turn the game around, but PG clearly had more of the ball for the remaining half hour and were able to shut HCC out.

The Dragons next travel to the College of Southern Maryland as they attempt to bounce back in conference play. That game will be played on Wednesday October 7th, kick-off is scheduled for 4 PM.
