Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dragons Squander Golden Chance to Beat Harford

The Howard CC men's basketball team almost earned a huge win over rival Harford CC, but ultimately fell to the Fighting Owls 81-74. The loss puts the Dragons at 3-16 for the year and 0-9 in conference.

Despite a performance that could probably be considered their best effort of the season, the Dragons were unable to hold onto the game despite having the lead with just five minutes left in regulation. Howard CC had a 68-66 lead on the Owls after a Ryan Jackson (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy) layup from a great pass by Gregory Ash Jr. (West Baltimore, MD, Northwestern HS) much to the jubilance of the home crowd. The very next play Ash stole the ball and appeared to go for a monsterous dunk on the breakaway but was denied by the rim. The Owls recovered the ball and proceeded to go on a 7-0 run that the Dragons never recovered from.

The Grant twins provided one of their best performances of the year as a pair with Juwan Grant (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore City HS) going for 22 points and 11 rebounds while John Grant Jr. (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore City HS) added 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ash came off the bench and provided 16 points and 5 assists as the entire team shot 46% from the floor in a much improved performance for the squad.

HCC will be forced into double duty this weekend thanks to the snow storms postponing a pair of games. They first play against CCBC Catonsville on Saturday January 31st at home with a 5 PM tip-off time before traveling to Montgomery College on Sunday to face the Raptors at 4 PM.
