Anne Arundel Completes Comeback Over Dragons 81-76

The struggling HCC men's basketball team were unable to secure a win over the equally deficient Anne Arundel Riverhawks as they fell 81-76. The loss keeps the Dragons in the bottom of the standings for the MDJUCO conference with an 0-6 record and 3-11 for the season.

With the Grant twins benched for the game, the Dragons were forced to go with a different starting five with Kyle Davis (Washington D.C., Wakefield HS) being the only regular starter on the court for the tip-off. HCC jumped out to an early lead and were able to keep it for the entire first half. HCC once again got up by as much as 8 in the second half before faltering over the final 8 minutes of the game. The Dragons held AACC to just 38% from the floor, but 15 offensive rebounds allowed the Riverhawks 21 second chance points which proved to be the difference in the game.

Gregory Ash Jr. (West Baltimore, MD, Northwestern HS) came off the bench in this game but led the team with 17 points on 7-12 from the floor along with 6 assists. The Dragons welcomed Terrell Willis (Washington D.C., Chapel Gate Christian) onto the court for the first time this season and he provided the same offensive spark as he did much of last season with 14 points thanks to a 3-6 game from 3-point range. Ryan Jackson (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy) also dropped three from behind the arc to provide 14 points of his own while Davis provided 10 assists on the day.

The Dragons next take on a tough conference matchup as Hagerstown CC comes to the Dragons Lair on Saturday January 9th at 7 PM. The Hawks currently sit tied for 2nd place in the conference at 5-1 while sporting a 7-9 overall record.
