Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Panthers Drop Dragons Out of Conference Tournament

The Howard CC women's basketball team was unable to overcome Baltimore City CC's size advantage as the Panthers knocked the Dragons out of the MD JUCO conference tournament 67-57.

Baltimore City CC stifled the Dragons offense in the first quarter as the Dragons shot 4-18 in the first stanza on the way to a 17-10 deficit. But the second quarter was a completely different story as HCC used their quick strike offense effectively to outscore BCCC 19-11 and take a one point lead into halftime.

However, the game was decided in the 3rd quarter as BCCC took the lead back 10 seconds into the second half and never gave it up. Sam Heisig (Glenelg, MD, Glenelg HS) continued her hot shooting with a three-pointer to tie the game at 32-32, but the Panthers went on a 10-0 run which the Dragons were unable to overcome. With BCCC dominating the rebounds department 52-37 which allowed the Panthers to get 24 second chance points in the game.

Heisig finished the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds along with 5 steals. Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) dropped 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists as she cemented herself as one of the best passers in the conference. Lis Parks (Columbia, MD, St. Johns HS) continued her hot scoring streak with 12 points as well as 7 rebounds.

The Dragons were unable to get their other scorers going in the game as Lauren Thompson (Columbia, MD, Oakland Mills HS) went 2-14, Ebony Anderson (Baltimore, MD, Catonsville HS) went 1-8, and Knowlej Thomas (Columbia, MD, Mt. Hebron HS) went 3-8 and 0-3 from behind the arc.

HCC will enjoy a break before heading to Chesapeake College for the Region XX Division II tournament starting Friday February 26th.
