Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dragons Overcome Gritty Finger Lakes CC 15-9

The Howard CC men's lacrosse team continued to hold their home turf as sacred as they were able to fight off a tough Finger Lakes CC team 15-9. The victory improves the Dragons to 4-1 on the season and improved their winning streak at home to 8 games over the past 2 seasons.

While the #5 ranked Dragons were certainly favored at home against the #10 ranked Lakers team, the visitors from New York were not about to go down without a fight. The Lakers especially spelled blood when the Dragons were called for 9 penalties for a total of six and a half minutes of man down time which Finger Lakes translated into 5 goals.

Ultimately, the Dragons dominated in ground balls 54-35 and forced their opponents into 27 turnovers along with 12 solid saves from goalie
Mark Bowser (Carlisle, PA, Carlisle High School). Parese Williams (Wilmington NC, New Hanover HS) was spectacular on defense with 5 caused turnovers, 7 ground balls, 1 assist, and numerous crunching hits that made his presence known to every player in a blue shirt.

On the offensive side, it was the Mitchell and Curcio show with
Austin Mitchell (Laurel, MD, Reservoir High School) scoring 6 goals and 1 assist while Kevin Curcio (Lancaster, PA, Manheim Township) added 5 goals and an assist. Zach Beard (Clarksville, MD, River Hill High School) a couple goals and a couple assists while dish master Scott Dagnanleach (Hazel Grove, UK, Hazel Grove High School) added 4 assists and a goal. However, the highlight of the game was a great play by defensive midfielder Ronald Carney (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore Civitas) with a nice pass to open up space for long pole Hayden Foster (Sykesville, MD, Century High School) who sniped the top corner of the goal to get the first goal of his HCC career.

The Dragons will next face a Frederick CC squad that is in playing in their first season of the program as the Cougars travel to the Dragons Lair on Wednesday March 23rd at 3:30 PM.
