Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dragons Beat Frederick CC in Inaugural Contest 14-4

The Howard CC men's lacrosse team enjoyed a 14-4 victory over the Frederick CC Cougars in the first game played between the two schools. The Dragons are now 5-1 on the season as they continue to impress, especially at home.

The game turned into a physical battle early with 8 penalties given in the first half alone. Despite a first half hat trick from Declan Whinnery (Middleton, WI, Middleton High School), the Cougars were hanging in with HCC as it was just 4-2 at halftime. After another Frederick CC goal early in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to one, the Dragons went on a 10-0 run as they finally were able to exert their dominance in the game.

Whinnery was a monster all night for HCC as he finished the game with 4 goals and 3 assists. Zach Beard (Clarksville, MD, River Hill High School) chipped in a hat trick of his own while fellow attackman Kevin Curcio (Lancaster, PA, Manheim Township) added 1 goal and 2 assists.

With star Austin Mitchell (Laurel, MD, Reservoir High School) being held pointless for the first time this century and fellow point leader Scott Dagnanleach (Hazel Grove, UK, Hazel Grove High School) held to just one assist, it was up to the rest of the team to pick up the slack. That came in the form of midfielder Patrick O'Brien (Glenwood, MD, Glenelg High School) with 2 goals and 1 assist, along with long poles Parese Williams (Wilmington NC, New Hanover HS) with 2 goals and Hayden Foster (Sykesville, MD, Century High School) adding another one.

Goalie Mark Bowser (Carlisle, PA, Carlisle High School) had one of his busiest games all year and tallied 17 saves on the game to pick up his 5 win of the year.

The Dragons will face conference rival Anne Arundel CC on Friday March 25th at 3:30 PM in a showdown of the #5 and #6 ranked teams in the NJCAA.
