Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dragons Outlast Nassau

The Howard Community College (HCC) Women's Soccer Program outlasted a tough Nassau Community College (NCC) team 1-0.  The win improves the Dragons to 4-2 on the season.

NCC came ready to play early today dominating possession in the first half.  However, a stout defense led by freshman goalkeeper Savannah Hill (Laurel, MD, South Carroll HS) kept a clean sheet at halftime to keep the Dragons in contention going into the second half of play.  In the first, HCC was out shot 6-1 with 5 of the six balls going on goal.  despite being peppered with shots Hill played with poise like a veteran to make all 5 saves.

This game was the tail of two halves as HCC came out determined to play with more energy and started pushing the ball forward into NCC's defensive half. HCC was constantly gaining momentum with a couple good chances on goal in the half.  perhaps the best chance was stalled by an apparent offsides call that had the Dragons in the clear with just the keeper to beat.  The break through came in the 73rd minute as Kaitlyn McDaniel (Ellicott City, MD, Westminster HS) put together a magnificent run on goal getting by a defender to find herself one-one with the keeper.  McDaniel was able to get off a good shot on goal that tested the keeper, but the keeper was only able to get a body on the ball as an alert Savanna Holt (West Friendship, MD, Glenelg High School) came from behind the play and was able to finish the rebound. NCC was able to get off another chance or two after the goal, but Hill and the rest of the HCC defense was having none of it as they finished the game with the shutout intact.

With the win the Dragons will face Fashion Institute of Technology tomorrow Sunday September 18 at 1:30 PM, as they will look to remain perfect on the weekend.
