Dragons Sweep Opening Tri-Match

Howard CC Dragons vs. Hostos CC Caimans

To start the 2016 season, the Dragons are 1-0 with a straight set win over the visiting team Hostos CC. Coming into the season, the Dragons were looking to add to their success that they had last year; and they did just that.

In the first set, the Dragons jumped out early and let Hostos creep back into the game. In the middle of the first was a back and forth match with both Hostos and Howard going on respective six point runs.

The second set was more of a blow out as the Dragons ran away with the set 25-10. The set was never really close as Hostos tried to slow the match down by using their timeouts but to no avail.

In the third set, Coach Gary Troy had the Caimans on the ropes, but Hostos came back to tie up the match at 18-18. After a Dragons timeout, Howard CC went on a 7-2 run to close out the set and win 25-20.

Howard CC Dragons vs. Pennsylvania Highlands Black Bears

Howard CC took on Region XX opponent Penn Highlands and won convincingly in straight sets.

As the score drew closer to 25 for the Dragons, the pressure didn't seem to get to them. Again and again they saw the space and created opportunities for each other, even if that meant sacrificing their bodies for the ball. Apparently the floor is a magnet to them, always flying towards it, with no intention to stop.

The second set would result in a one or two point lead between the Dragons and the Bears. Soft hits, kills or digs; the Dragons would always find a way to serve again or return the serve.

Riley Forquer (Woodbine, MD/Century HS) continously saw the open space between the Penn Highlands players and drilled numerous volleyballs into the court; almost leaving a mark where the ball struck.
