Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dragons Fight For Tough 1-0 Victory Against Hagerstown

The Howard Community College Dragons (Howard CC) men's soccer program pulled out the victory in a tight Maryland JUCO matchup with Hagerstown Community College (Hagerstown CC).

The first half was a hard-fought battle between two tough teams.  Both teams had chances, but Howard CC had more quality chances, just unable to put the ball in the back of the net.  Simon Bradford had the highlight of the first half as he saved the Dragons on a beautiful shot that he was able to stretch out and keep the ball out of the top of the goal.

In the second half was much of the same back and forth hard fought battle between two evenly matched teams.  In the 80th minute, Hagerstown CC's Jeison Caballero was given a red card for a handball in the box which stopped an excellent opportunity for Howard to score.  On the ensuing penalty kick, Howard was unable to capitalize on a magnificent save by Eduardo Araujo to preserve the clean slate for the moment.  However, with Hagerstown being a player down, it was only a matter of time before Howard would capitalize.  In the 86th minute with defenders all over Francis Amankwah (/); he would tuck the ball into the far corner of the net, which would be the game-winner.

With the win, the Dragons improve to 8-4-1 overall on the season and 7-1-1 in the Maryland JUCO.  The Dragons return to action on Thursday at home as they face the CCBC Essex Knights.
