The Howard Community College (HCC) men's soccer team defeated Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) 2-0 in a thrilling game on Tuesday at the Dragon's Lair.
The first half was worth the price of admission as both teams had some good attempts on goal while both goalies came up with some big saves to preserve a 0-0 tie going into the second half. Drew Myers #2 for HCC played superbly on the back line not allowing anyone to make a clean run on goal all game.
In the second half, HCC showed that they were the more dominant team as they played with a lot more pace and pushed the ball into Anne Arundel's side of the field. HCC broke open the scoring in the 58th minute as
Steve Amankwah (/) converted on a header served in by
Daniel Fuentes (/), which turned out to be the winning goal. In the 79th minute, not to be outdone HCC's other Amankwah,
Francis Amankwah (/) finished on a one-on-one opportunity threading the ball past the AACC keeper to give the Dragons some insurance for the final 10 minutes of regulation.
With the win, HCC improves to 2-3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. HCC will return to action this Friday, September 15 at home as they will face the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals. Game time is 4 PM.
