Roadrunners Scurry Past Dragons 3-0

  • Score: Howard Dragons 0  | #4 Rowan-Gloucester Roadrunner 3
  • Records: Howard 0-2 | Rowan-Gloucester 2-1
  • Location: Columbia, Md. – Dragons Athletic Complex
  • The Short Story: A hot and humid day made for a test of fortitude, but ultimately it was the Roadrunners that came away with a 3-0 win. The Dragons defensive back three of Kristen Ogle (Sykesville, MD/Century), Busi Sokoya (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) and Clara Milstead (Eldersburg, MD/Christiana Academy) put in a great effort to hold a strong Rowan-Gloucester offense for much of the contest.

How It Happened
  • The high temperature and humidity of the day took its toll on both teams in a sluggish first half where there were few good goal scoring chances.
  • The Dragons best chance came late in the first half on back-to-back corner kicks that gave Nikki Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Adventista) a shot from the middle of the box that was deflected away.
  • A defensive giveaway gave the Roadrunners the ball deep in Howard territory which allowed Megan Lord a chance to play Kayla Davis is on goal who powered it into the top of the net.
  • Lord picked up a second assist, this time setting up Kylie Guarente who was left open on the back post.
  • Howard got their first shot on goal early in the second half when Ellen Campbell (Highland, MD/Reservoir) took a shot from 25 yards out but was saved by Gloucester.
  • Kayla Davis made another run into Dragons territory with her cross taking an unlucky deflection off Busi Sokoya (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) and went into the net for a 3-0 Roadrunners lead.
  • Vieira took a free kick chance from 25 yards out that curled just over the cross bar to give the Dragons some momentum, but a breakthrough on the scoreboard never came for the home team.
