Columbia, MD – Day one of the 16
th annual Dragon Invitational Volleyball Tournament was a struggle for the Dragons as they were swept by Harford in the first match and again to the Community College of Rhode Island in their second.
The Fighting Owls from Harford came out swinging as the Dragons defensive back line did their best against a tough test as
Rachel Dotson (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) finished with eight digs and
Elizabeth Quintin (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) adding seven. Harford proved too much for the hosts as they comfortably won 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.
Jessica Marquis (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty), the lone returner from the 2017 Dragons squad, picked up 10 digs along with seven assists for the veteran setter.
After a couple hours to recuperate, the Rhode Island Knights proved equally difficult as they won 25-16, 25-11, 25-16.
Elizabeth Quintin (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) led the team with four kills in the match along with an ace while
Jasmyn Bumbray (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) and
Sacha Radelet (Chaumont, Belgium/Lycu Marin V) each had five digs in the encounter.
The Dragons will look to rebound in day two of the tournament, however it will not be easy as they are set to face a powerhouse Sandhills CC team that dominated in their two matches of day one against Harford and Rhode Island.
