Dragons Split Weekend Tournament

Columbia, MD - Despite the possibility of an incoming hurricane, the Dragon Invitational Women's Soccer Tournament went as planned with the only precipitation being the sweat from four well contested soccer matches.

Howard first hosted a strong Brookdale team who leave the weekend undefeated for the season at 7-0.

The Dragons got on the board in the 5th minute as a long through ball by Leigh McDonald (Loveland, CO/Mountain View) put Nikki Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Adventista) through on goal as she expertly finished into the top right corner of the net.

Brookdale responded just 30 seconds later as a giveaway by the Howard defense allowed Dominique Lovallo to walk the ball into the net and tie the game. From there the Jersey Blues took control of the game and ultimately defeated the Dragons 4-1.

The following day saw the Dragons take on the Fashion Institute of Technology in a game that was dominated by the home team from start to finish. Howard got on the board in the 28th minute as a Roos Van Remmen (Deventer, Netherlands/Ety Hillesum Lyceum) shot was deflected into the path of Vieira who tapped in from close range.

Just 10 minutes later the roles were reversed as a Vieira shot saw Van Remmen collect the rebound and score to double the lead before halftime.

Midway through the second half, Vieira set up Kylie Toler (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) who's big right foot found the back of the net. Claudia Brush (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) scored just 40 seconds later thanks to a great cross from Grace Pritchett (Dayton, MD/Linganore) to cap the Dragons scoring in a game where the Dragons outshot their opponents 27-4.

Howard will next host conference foe Cecil College on Wednesday, September 19 at 4 PM.
