Columbia, MD - The Dragons hosted conference opponent Baltimore City Community College and were unable to slow down the powerhouse as they fell 100-59 to the Panthers.
Howard jumped out to an early first half lead as Markeem Lateef (Willingboro, NJ/Liberty Heights) took advantage of his first career collegiate start and drained a long range three to give the Dragons a 5-2 lead. Â Early in the first half, Howard took advantage of a turnover in which Nathan Ferguson (Silver Spring, MD/Bethesda) went into the air to slammed it home to keep the Dragons close down 11-8.
Midway through the first half, Jesse Calloway (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) hit a three pointer and was fouled to complete a four-point play as he scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half. Howard kept it close for much of the first half before a 9-0 Baltimore City run late in which the Panthers took advantage of their size advantage with seven blocks and eight dunks.
The Dragons started to put a dent into the deficit early in the second half as a three pointer by Emeka Eni (Pesaro, Italy/Lewisville) and an old fashioned three point play by Calloway cut the Baltimore City lead to 12.
The Panthers responded with a 14-0 run where they held Howard shutout for nearly six minutes to put the game out of reach.
Eni and Shivers contributed to the Dragons offense with 13 points each while the shorthanded Howard squad also got seven points from Lateef and six points each from Zabril Carey (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) and Ferguson..
Up next on the Dragons schedule is the College of Southern Maryland. The Hawks will travel to the Dragons Lair on Wednesday, January 23 at 7 PM.
