Columbia, MD -
Jesse Calloway (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) scored a career high 32 points, but was unable to prevent an eighth straight loss for the Dragons as they fell to Southern Maryland 87-77.
The Hawks got out to a blistering start as they were ahead 19-3 after nine minutes of play. Howard began to crawl back into the game and closed the first half on a 10-0 run capped by an old fashioned three point play by Calloway.
Kevin Yomba (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) made his way back into the line up and added nine points with nine rebounds along with a couple of blocks including the first four points of the second half to make it a three point deficit.
That was the closest the Dragons would get as the Hawks pulled away late as Howard continues to search for their first conference victory of the year.
Emeka Eni (Pesaro, Italy/Lewisville) scored 16 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor while
Nathan Ferguson (Silver Spring, MD/Bethesda) added 13 rebounds for his first game this season with double digit rebounds.
The Dragons will next travel to Cecil College on Saturday, January 26 at 3 PM.
