Columbia, MD - The Dragons and College of Southern Maryland Hawks scored a combined 17 goals in shootout led by
Anderson Marroquin (Elkridge, MD/Hammond) and his seven goals in the contest.
Marroquin scored on a
Lassana Diakite (Mali/LCAD) assist just three minutes into the game as it appeared from the onset that Howard would simply run away with the game. The Hawks showed the Dragons that they would not be such an easy prey, as Logan Miller scored the first of his three goals six minutes later to tie the game.
Howard would go on to score the next five goals as Marroquin completed his hat trick in 24 minutes on assists from
Brandon Muma (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) and Diakite again with Muma also picking up a goal along the way.Â
A nice cross in by
Dennis Cruz (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) set up forward
Kevin Ngatou (Laurel, MD/Laurel) for his second goal of the season and then later set up
Bradley Muma (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) for his sixth of the year.
Marroquin would score again in the 62nd minute as a long free kick by
Seiba Rizk (Highland, MD/River Hill) set him free on net before Ngatou doubled up on the game. After the Hawks scored two in a row to give Howard a bit of a nervous moment, Marroquin closed the game out for good with three goals in the last 10 mintues including a penalty shot, a fast break, and a one-on-one goal thanks to a brilliant
Luis Wardcantori (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) pass.
Howard will start a three game road trip beginning with Hagerstown on Thursday, October 3 at 4 PM.
