Howard Wins Turkey Hoop Shoot Tournament

Randolph, NJ - The Howard CC Dragons traveled to New Jersey for the Turkey Hoop Shoot Classic hosted by the County College of Morris and were able to come away with the tournament championship trophy thanks to a 77-67 win over Orange County and a 97-79 win over Morris.

In the tournament opener, Howard jumped out to an early lead for the first time this season and never let up. Daeshawn Eaton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was fantastic in the game with 22 points including 8-12 from the field, 2-3 from long range and four steals. Deven Richmond (Bowie, MD/DeMatha) chipped in 12 points as Howard spread the scoring out all over the roster.

Kelvin Sellman (Temple Hills, MD/Crossland) was all over the stat sheet as well with eight points, eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals. Other major point contributors included Christian Matthews (Clinton, MD/National Christian) with nine, Hollique Smith-Johnson (Glen Burnie, MD/Old Mill) with eight, while Cole Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) and DJ Tucker-Harry (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) each scored seven points with the latter also adding seven rebounds and three blocks.

In the tournament finals, Howard once again jumped out to a great start as they nearly missed hitting the century mark against the hosts.

Sellman was unbelievable in the contest with 23 points, 13 assists and zero turnovers for the point guard in a game that solidified his tournament MVP honors. Sellman was 7-9 from the field including 5-7 from three point range.

Eaton scored 17 points to make the All-Tournament team alongside teammate Tucker-Harry who played dominant defense in the post.

Matthews played perhaps his best game of the season with 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks while Harshman chipped in 10 points and a team high seven rebounds.

Howard will get a week to rest before getting back to action against the St. Mary's College of Maryland JV team on Sunday, December 1 at 1 PM.
