Groton, CT – The Dragons women's basketball team started their season out strongly, as they were able to put on display the talent that head coach
Marvin Evans has recruited to Howard in a 104-82 win over UCONN Avery Point. This marks the first time that the Dragons have exceeded the century mark in a game in the modern era of the program (2012-present).
Howard won every quarter in the contest as they were able to put a complete four quarter game together in their season opener.
Sophomore transfer
Brianna Jones (Largo, MD/Largo) was phenomenal in her first game as a Dragon, as she scored 32 points on 11-22 shooting from the floor with 14 rebounds to lead the way.
Freshman
Ciara Little (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse), playing in her hometown state, dropped 20 points in her collegiate debut including a 5-10 performance from behind the arc to go along with eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.
While the influx of new talent has clearly become a huge boost to the Dragons progression, the returning sophomore returners also showed brightly as
Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) contributed 13 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals while
Shanta Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Suitland) hit five three-pointers along with five steals.
Tyteana Seymore (Washington, D.C./Columbia Heights) scored nine points,
Kyrstin Bowen (Westminster, MD/Mount Airy Christian) added five points, six rebounds and four blocks before fouling out, and
Ashlyn McInerney (Hyattsville, MD/Hammond) hit a couple of long range shots while swiping three steals along the way.
The Dragons will return to Maryland for their home opener on Tuesday, November 5 for a 5 PM game against a powerful Harcum College Bears team.
