Keyser, WV – Facing off against a national powerhouse and a regional rival in Potomac State, the Dragons were unable to overcome the adversity in an 84-75 loss.
The two teams were even at 41-41 early in the second half, but the Catamounts went on a big run to be up by 11. Howard fought back with a three pointer by
Naquan Williams-Day (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) and a three point play by
Deven Richmond (Bowie, MD/DeMatha) to cut it down to four. With five minutes left and Howard still trailing by six, Williams-Day converted a three point play followed by a
Christian Matthews (Clinton, MD/National Christian) long range shot to make it just a three point deficit. The Dragons kept it close until the very end, but were unable to get closer than that as Potomac State hit their free throws to end the game.
Kelvin Sellman (Temple Hills, MD/Crossland) and Williams-Day tied for the team lead with 17 points each with
Daeshawn Eaton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) scoring 14 before fouling out late in the second half.
Joel Webb (Forestville, MD/Wise) and
Michael Gray (Glendale, MD/Bowie) each scored seven points to help the team's cause.
The Dragons will return home to host Hagerstown on Wednesday, December 18 at 7 PM for a conference game against the local rival Hawks.
