Columbia, MD – Five Dragons scored in double-digit points as a well-balanced Howard side defeated the Monroe-Bronx Express 82-55. The Dragons fantastic start to the season continues as they improve to 8-3 on the season.
The Dragons got out to a blistering start as they hit their first five shots from three point range on the way to 31-15 lead after the first quarter shooting 13-21 from the field.
Howard moved the ball around nicely throughout the opening half as six different Dragons had seven or more points before halftime including assists on 14 of the 19 field goals led by
Ciara Little (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) with five of her game high seven dimes.
Monroe brought the game back with a strong third quarter to make the Dragon faithful start to sweat, but a dominating fourth quarter that saw them outscore their opponents 24-10 including a 10-0 run to finishing the game as they held the Express scoreless over the final four minutes of the game.
Brianna Jones (Largo, MD/Largo) was outstanding once again with a 17 point, 17 rebound performance including 11 offensive boards as she is now third in the NJCAA Division II with 12.9 rebounds per game.
Kyrstin Bowen (Westminster, MD/Mount Airy Christian) was a monster in the paint as she recorded double-digit blocks for a second consecutive game with 12 in the game along with her 15 points. She now leads the conference and is fourth in the NJCAA Division II with 4.7 blocks per game.
Tyteana Seymore (Washington, D.C./Columbia Heights) returned from her injury to score a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) and Little added 12 points and six steals each while
Ashlyn McInerney (Hyattsville, MD/Hammond) hit a couple threes on her way to an eight point game.
Howard will get back on the road on Saturday, December 14 as they go to West Virginia to take on Potomac State at 1 PM.
