Dragons Win Sixth Straight 79-70

Columbia, MD - The Dragons dominated the first half and went on cruise control as they beat the Monroe Bronx Express 79-70. Howard came away with their sixth consecutive victory and improved to 9-1 with five players scoring in double digits.

The visitors from New York did a good job of keeping the game close for the opening 10 minutes of the game before a 12-0 run put Howard ahead 27-14 with Kelvin Sellman (Temple Hills, MD/Crossland) hitting a couple from long range in the stretch. The Express had a strong second half to pull the game close, cutting the Dragons lead to three with six minutes left in the second half before back-to-back three pointers by Naquan Williams-Day (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills); who later made four straight free throws to extend the Howard lead back to eight.

Howard scored 53 points off the bench as Williams-Day scored 15, Sellman added 12 and Deven Richmond (Bowie, MD/DeMatha) scored 11. Michael Gray (Glendale, MD/Bowie) played 20 quality minutes with 10 points and five steals to his name while Christian Matthews (Clinton, MD/National Christian) scored double digit points in three of the last four games.

The Dragons will take the week off for finals while preparing for a big game against regional powerhouse Potomac State, who is nationally ranked in the latest NJCAA Division II poll.
