Dragons Comeback To Beat Cougars 12-6

Columbia, MD - The #4 ranked Dragons fell behind early, but rode a huge streak in the middle of the game to defeat the #6 ranked Genesee Cougars 12-6.

Genesee scored the first three goals of the game and looked to be in control before a late first quarter goal by Jeremy Sforzo (Vail, CO/Battle Mountain) as his bounced shot found the roof of the net.

The Cougars sandwiched a couple more goals around a Jack Watsic (Frederick, MD/Linganore) strike goal and Genesee was ahead 5-2 midway through the second quarter.

From that point it was all Howard as a Jackson Krasny (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) goal started an incredible stretch for the Dragons. Sforzo scored next then set up goals by Bobby Solomon (Fairfax, VA/Woodson) and Jacke Mackenzie on either side of the halftime break.

Jake Pyke (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) added a goal on a great feed from Colvin Prosser (Kennesaw, GA/Lassiter) and defenseman Johnny Chaisson (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) scored an impressive fourth goal of the season for the long pole.

Solomon scored the next two goals late in the third quarter to complete his hat trick as Howard completed his hat trick and the Dragons finished off a 9-0 run; not giving up a goal over a 28 minute stretch.

Joe Beville (Gaithersburg MD/Quince Orchard) scored a late goal to cap off the scoring in an incredibly important win for the Dragons as they defeated a Genesee that had won five of the last six games between the two teams.

The Dragons defense led by Chaisson, Austin Stuebner (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin), Jason McElroy (Frederick, MD/Oakdale) and Tim Roesler (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) was fantastic as they held the Cougars to just 16 shots on goal and caused 24 turnovers.

Goalkeeper Tim Russell (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made 10 saves to earn his sixth victory of the year thanks in part to a man-down defense that allowed just one goal in six chances.

The Dragons will now prepare for a huge road trip starting for a game at #1 ranked Nassau on Saturday, April 13 at 1 PM.
