Columbia, MD - The Dragons rode great performances by
Kira Thompson (Elkridge, MD/Atholton) and
Natalie Hosseini (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) to win their second consecutive straight set victory, taking down Pennsylvania Highlands 25-8, 26-24, 25-10.
The first set started out close as Howard led 7-5 before winning 16 straight points on
Sroda Coleman (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) serving four aces along the way as the Dragons took the opener 25-8.
Set two saw a ton of errors from both sides including 10 attacking errors by Howard in the set. The Dragons went up 24-22 on a
Sabrina Lagomarsino (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) ace before allowing Penn Highlands the ability to tie it at 24-24. The Dragons locked it in after that to win the next two points and take the set.
Set three almost mimicked the first as a 10-8 Howard lead was accelerated by a 12-0 run, once again with Coleman serving the Dragons through the hot streak. The Dragons won the last three points capped off by a booming hit by
Natalie Hosseini (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) to close out the Howard victory.
Kira Thompson (Elkridge, MD/Atholton) had a game high 12 kills along with four aces while Hosseini added 11 kills and three blocks. Libero
Yi Su Arief (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) led the team with seven digs with setter Lagomarsino adding a season high 19 assists on the day.
Howard will hit the road for a tri-match on Saturday, September 14 as they go to Arnold, MD to take on Anne Arundel CC and Butler County at 11 AM and 1 PM respectively.
