Columbia, MD - Six goals in the second half propelled the Dragons past Rowan College of Gloucester County in a 7-2 victory.
Howard took the early lead as
Madalyn Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) hit a long shot into the top corner of the net just 13 minutes into the game. That would be it for scoring in the opening 45 minutes as the two teams failed to convert good scoring opportunities.
The Dragons really turned it up a notch in the second half as sophomore
Rylee Nieman (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll), in her first action of the 2019 season, hit a cross that was deflected in by the Roadrunners defense for an own goal.
Rowan Gloucester pulled a goal bak just 40 seconds later as they caught the Howard defense napping on a lapse in concentration. That was all the Dragons needed to put the game into full throttle as Nichols would go on to assist three of the next four Dragons goals including scores by
Kylie Toler (Fulton, MD/Reservoir), Nieman, and
Clara Janush (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) on a corner kick.
Kayla Hatmaker (Woodbine, MD/Century)Â later scored a goal for the third straight game with
Lillian Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) scoring her first collegiate goal late in the game.
Howard will conclude the Dragon Invitational on Sunday, September 15 as they take on the Fashion Institute of Technology at 1:30 PM.
