Columbia, MD - In a hard-fought conference battle, the Knights were able to muscle their way to a 3-0 victory over the Dragons.
The first few minutes of the game were full of shots from both teams asÂ
Lassana Diakite (Mali/Ceick Amla Diop) sent the first of many shots flying high over the net. Several minutes later, the Knights countered with a booming shot from Daigo Adachi that Dragons goalkeeper
Darbouzeson Casseus (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was able to make an excellent save on.
In the eighth minute. Rin Yasui beat his defender down the left side and threaded a through ball to Adachi who maneuvered a shot to the upper right corner of the net to give the Knights a lead.
Just two minutes later, the Knights doubled their lead as a corner kick was put dangerously into the box and eventually fell to Adachi who was able to tap the ball in from close range.
Both teams continued to have chances throughout the first half and remained relatively even between both teams despite the scoreboard.
Anderson Marroquin (Elkridge, MD/Hammond) earned several quality chances with one shot being saved and another sailing just wide of the net.
The second half started with several chances from the Dragons.
Bradley Muma (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) won a corner for the Dragons and Julia Medrano curled it into the box where Trevor Ndami was able to get his head on it but the ball went wide left.
In the 58th minute, a streaking Isaiah Price was brought down by
Rene Sosa (Silver Spring/Blake) in the goal box to give the Knights a penalty kick. Adachi took the shot with a chance for a hat trick on the line and hit the ball directly into the hands of Casseus who was able to knock it away for a beautiful save.
With 15 minutes left in the second half,
Andrew Flick (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) was under high pressure from Price with the Knight taking the ball away and getting a wide open shot to sneak another goal for the Knights.
The Dragons will take their 5-5 record to the Northern Virginia Community College Nighthawks for a game that was moved to Friday, September 27 at 3 PM.
