Columbia, MD - The Dragons used a dominant second half to eventually rout the Army Preperatory School 15-7.
Howard scored first less than 80 seconds into the game as a pair of newcomers teamed up with
Jordan Swoyer (New Market, MD/Linganore) feeding
Greg Boyce (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) to put the Dragons ahead. Army scored three straight to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mikey Welsh (Brookeville, MD/Glenelg Country) and
Jackson Krasny (Hagerstown, MD/Saint Maria Goretti)Â made great individual efforts to tie the game at 3-3, but Army again responded strong, scoring three of the next four goals to lead 6-4 at halftime with freshman goalkeeper
Evan Hock (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) getting the start and making seven saves in the first half.
After that it was all Howard as head coach
Erik Foust put veteran goalkeeper
Tim Russell (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) in the net for the second half to shut down Army; allowing just one goal in the second half.Â
The Dragons offense found their groove in the third quarter with Welsh scoring two of his four goals along with man-up goals by Krasny and
Jack Watsic (Frederick, MD/Linganore) and long pole
Leo Dunlap (Omaha, NE/Creighton Prep) getting in on the action.
Howard continued to control the game in the fourth quarter as Krasny completed his hat trick and saw goals scored by
Joe Beville (Gaithersburg MD/Quince Orchard) and Eun Gyu Ryoo. The defensive trio of
Andrew Burns (Finksburg, MD/Westminster),
Shane DeLore (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) and
Jason McElroy (Frederick, MD/Oakdale) shut down Army, allowing just seven shots in the second half.
Howard will stay at home to host Hampton University on Friday, February 28 at 3:30 PM.Â
