Sanborn, NY – A good first half by the Howard Dragons was cancelled out in the second half as the Lackawanna Falcons prevailed 65-55.
The Dragons struggled to get their offense going early, but
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) got the Dragons going with a drive to make the basket and draw the foul for a three-point play to get Howard ahead 6-4. Howard found their shooting touch after this and surged to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter. Great defense and timely baskets had the Dragons ahead 29-22 at halftime as Howard forced 19 turnovers from their opponents in the first 20 minutes of the game.
A frantic paced third quarter saw both teams run up and down the court with Lackawanna scoring more points in the third quarter than the entire first half to take a 45-43 lead into the final period. Starting out the fourth quarter, a great dish by
Kayla Allen (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) found
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) for an easy layup to tie the game. Another People layup and a couple of
Lindsay Thweatt (Columbia, MD/St. John's Catholic) free throws had the Dragons on a 6-0 run to take the lead. Lackawanna came right back with an 18-0 run that broke the Dragons chances at pulling out a victory.
Thweatt led the way for Howard with 17 points followed by People with 18.
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) and Corkeron each added seven points in the game.
The Dragons will get a good amount of rest before getting back on the court at Harford on November 23 at 5 PM.
