North East, MD - The Cecil Mixer Invitational Tournament saw four really strong teams in action over the weekend with Howard Community College losing to powerhouse
Harcum College before pulling out a slugfest against Delaware Tech.
In the tournament opener, the Dragons took on the #6 team in the NJCAA for Division I as the
Harcum College Bears came into the game undefeated. While the Dragons kept it close for much of the game, a second half surge by
Harcum put the game out of reach.
Daeshawn Eaton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) led the Dragons with 14 points while also contributing with eight rebounds.
David Garey (Gaithersburg, MD/Hargrave Military) scored eight along with four assists while
Hollique Johnson also chipped in eight points.Â
In the Sunday matinee, Delaware Tech came out of the gates with energy as they built up a 20 point lead as Howard trailed 41-21 with three and a half minutes remaining in the first half. That is when the
Teylor Silverman truly began as he scored his first collegiate points in the game and never stopped scoring. In the second half, Silverman went 8-9 from the field, 4-5 from three point range, and scored 22 of his game high 34 points in the second half to lead the Dragons to a big comeback win.

The Dragons guards did the majority of the scoring in the game as Silverman was joined by Garey with 17 points and seven assists while Eaton scored 13 with five assists.
Omar McGann (Waldorf, MD/St. Charles) scored 10 points and
Cole Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) scored eight. The Dragons went 12-24 from three point range, doubling the team's previous high for made three pointers in a game this season to snap a three game losing streak.

Howard will have little time to rest as they travel to Harford Community College on Tuesday, November 23 at 7 PM to take on head coach
Mike Smelkinson's former employer.
