University Center, MI -
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) scored 34 points, but Howard was unable to complete the comeback as they fell to the Delta College Pioneers 73-65.
The Dragons got out to a slow start in the game, scoring just eight points in the first quarter on 3-11 shooting from floor. Howard began to get more aggressive towards the basket after that as People took 20 free throws in the game, making 15 of them.Â
Delta led by as much as 12 before a dramatic comeback saw Howard take their only lead of the game on a
Kayla Allen (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) three pointer midway through the third quarter. The Pioneers steamed forward again, but a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter had Howard down 62-60 with under three minutes remaining. Allen hit another jumper a minute later to cut it to a one point deficit, but a back breaking three pointer by Delta College gave them the room they needed to close the game out.
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) scored nine points as did Allen, but it was People who really had a day as she shot 9-19 from the field along with seven rebounds.
The 1-1 Dragons will complete their weekend in Michigan on Sunday, November 7 when they take on Wayne County at 12 PM.
