New Rochelle, NY - A heroic effort from
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) kept the Dragons within striking distance, but ultimately fell to the #19 ranked Sullivan County Generals 69-63 in the Monroe College Mixer.
The Dragons played a great first half and went into the halftime break down by only two points at 33-31. Sullivan County answered back with 29 points in the third quarter as they shot 66% from the field during the period as they continued to punish the Dragons in the paint.
Howard clamped down the defense in the fourth quarter, holding the powerful Generals to just seven points in the final 10 minutes of play as Sullivan County shot just 10% from the floor with the Dragons forcing nine turnovers. Howard fought all the way back to a 65-62 deficit with just three minutes left after a clutch three pointer by
Sarah Deese (Woodbine, MD/Century). Unfortunately the Dragons went cold from there as it proved to be the last field goal Howard would make in the game.Â
People finished the game with 32 points along with eight rebounds, as she shot 10-18 from the field and 11-13 from the charity stripe.
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake)Â chipped in 12 points and
Kayla Allen (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) added eight points to the cause.Â
The Dragons will look to close out the New York swing with a win when they take on tournament host Monroe College on Sunday, December 12 at 5 PM.
