Bel Air, MD – Six different Howard CC players scored in double-digits as the Dragons easily defeated Delaware Tech 92-74 in the Harford Hoops Classic opening game.
The two teams had met just a few weeks ago in a nail biter that Howard CC barely held on to win. The second meeting was significantly less dramatic as the Dragons controlled the pace of the game for much of the contest.
The Dragons were unstoppable in the first half, building up a lead as high as 21 points while shooting 62% from the field as they went into halftime with a 49-29 lead. A monster slam dunk by
Joel Webb (Forrestville, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) and a three pointer by
David Garey (Gaithersburg, MD/Hargrave Military) capped off a 16-3 run that firmly put the Dragons in the driver's seat.
Delaware Tech fought back in the second half, cutting the deficit down to 64-53 before a couple of
DJ Tucker (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) layups broke the momentum. The two teams continued to full court press each other which led to easy fast break baskets for both teams, but a late surge by the Dragons made it a comfortable victory in the end.
Eaton led the team with 16 points while
Joel Webb (Forrestville, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) scored 14 on 6-6 shooting from the floor.
Koby Baptiste (New Carrollton, MD/Parkdale) had arguably his most effective game of the season with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists, leading the team in the latter two stats.
David Garey (Gaithersburg, MD/Hargrave Military) scored 12 points along with five assists before fouling out late in the second half, while
Ardie Dorsey III (Capitol Heights, MD/Largo) and Tucker both finished with 13 points each.
The Dragons will finish out their appearance in the Harford Hoops Classic when they take on Patrick Henry CC on Saturday, December 18 at 2 PM.
