Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) flirted with a triple-double as she guided the Dragons to a 72-57 win over the Garrett Lakers as Howard was able to earn a victory in their first regional game of the season.
The Dragons struggled to shoot in the first quarter as they trailed 16-6 after the opening period. A strong second and third quarters saw Howard extend their lead to 53-36 after three quarters of play. Garrett made a big push early in the fourth quarter as they cut the Howard lead to 56-50, but the Dragons went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.
People scored 33 points in the game to go along with 15 rebounds and eight steals. She grabbed 10 offensive boards in the game as Howard snagged 26 as a team in a great display of rebounding.
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) scored 15 and
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Kayla Allen (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) provided some big plays off the bench with seven points and 10 rebounds while
Lindsay Thweatt (Columbia, MD/St. John's Catholic) led the team with six assists on the day.
Howard will get another lengthy rest between games before they head to New York City where they will participate in the Monroe College Mixer. The Dragons first game will be on Saturday, December 11 against Sullivan at 12 PM.
