Columbia, MD – Another week and another two wins for the Dragons' Rocket League team as they moved to first place in the NECC with a 3-1 win over Arcadia University.
With the Dragons coming into the week tied for first place and a big target on them, Arcadia University (3-3) were able to catch Howard by surprise with two goals in the first 30 seconds of the game.
Jeremy Hotchkiss (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) got the Dragons on the board midway through the first game, but Arcadia answered back within 10 seconds to extend their lead.
Logan Ghandi (/) scored a tight angle shot to cut the Arcadia lead in half, but an insurance goal by Arcadia closed the game out.
Howard put on consistent pressure to start game two, but Arcadia scored on a counter attack to again take the early lead. Hotchkiss got it done on both sides making a couple of big saves then scored on the counter attack to tie it up. Hotchkiss then made a great pass off the back wall to Ghandi who powered it in to give the Dragons their first lead of the match. The two linked up again a minute later as Ghandi had to fly high to latch onto a Hotchkiss pass to score then finished his hat trick 30 seconds later to even the match up at 1-1.
For a third straight game, the Knights scored first and then doubled their lead in the first minute. Ghandi scored to bring one back for Howard then scored a full court shot assisted by
Akaash Patel (/) to knot it up. Ghandi went for another full court shot that just went over the cross bar, but Hotchkiss was there to tap in from close range for what turned out to be the game winning goal to put Howard ahead 2-1.
Game four was a defensive struggle that saw the first goal come past the halfway mark with Patel setting up Ghandi to finally get Howard the first goal in a game. With Arcadia pushing forward to find the tying goal, Ghandi intercepted a pass and dribbled it into the opposing goal on the counter attack. Hotchkiss added an insurance goal late close out the game and the match to keep the Dragons in first place for the NECC conference.
The Dragons took on the University of Central Missouri in the META Invitational and swept them in an easy 3-0 victory for Howard as they now sit in second place at 6-1 in the tournament.
