Dragons Sweep Trio of Matches

Columbia, MD - The Howard Community College Rocket League team continued its incredibly successful run of the spring season with a trio of victories as they competed in all three leagues in consecutive days.

Starting with the META Invitational, the Dragons once again knocked out west coast powerhouse Fresno State in a 3-1 victory. Josh earned playing time in the match as he returned from a hiatus to contribute in the victory. Howard CC finished the regular season at 7-1 and go into the playoffs as the #2 seed. The Dragons are slated to take on #3 seed University of Central Missouri in the semifinals with the entire playoff bracket set to be held on Monday, April 5.

Howard took on the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats in the NECC and despite dropping the first game in disappointing fashion, the Dragons rallied to win the next three games to take the match. Howard has already clinched a playoff spot and at 7-1 are tied for first place in the division with one week to play. The Dragons will take on Springfield college on Tuesday, April 6th at 5 PM in a conference streamed match to close out the regular season with major seeding implications on the line.

In the debut match of the inaugural season for the Mid-Atlantic Esports Conference (MAEC), the Dragons took on a highly rated Shenandoah University Hornets and came through with a shocking sweep. Howard won a defensive slugfest in game one with Logan Ghandi (/) coming through with the lone goal and Akaash Patel (/) with two fantastic saves. In game two, Ghandi launched a clearance from his own end into the net to take the lead, but Shenandoah answered back within seconds. Jeremy Hotchkiss (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) turned a strong defensive play into a counter attack goal to give the Dragons the lead then scored again with a minute left to give Howard a big insurance goal. Game three was more of a demolition derby with both teams aggressively muscling each other. With just over a minute left, Patel made an incisive move to slam home to take the lead, but the Hornets scored with just five seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime. The team captain stepped up for the team once more as Hotchkiss took advantage of a botched clearance by Shenandoah to nail home the game and match winner. Howard will take on Catholic University in week two on April 7 at 6 PM.
