Box Score Columbia, MD - A stifling Harford defense gave the Howard Dragons a tough time as the Fighting Owls emerged victorious by the score of 15-3.
Coming off an emotional overtime win over the #5 ranked CCBC Essex, the #2 ranked Harford Fighting Owls took advantage of early mistakes by Howard and jumped out to a 3-0 early lead.
Philip Petersen (Vail, CO/Eagle Valley) was the first offensive player to make a big impact as he dodged a defender and set up
Cole Blanche (Mount Airy, MD/Linganore) to get the Dragons on the board. After a couple more goals in the first period for Harford,
Jackson Krasny (Hagerstown, MD/Saint Maria Goretti) assisted
Nick Hinton (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) to keep Howard within striking range early in the second quarter.
The Dragons went on an offensive slump after that, giving up four unanswered goals and going 29 minutes of game time without scoring. Thankfully for Howard, the great defensive play along with a heroic effort from goalkeeper
Evan Hock (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) and his 16 saves kept the game close as there was only a single goal scored in the entire third quarter on a man-up oppurtunity for Harford.
Howard looked to get some momentum going as
Drew Goode (Gambrills MD/Arundel) was shifted to attack and immediately made an impact as he dished to
Jordan Swoyer (New Market, MD/Linganore) to pull one back for the Dragons. From there it was all Harford, who scored the last six goals of the game to put the game away.
The Dragons will next host Anne Arundel for a rematch from the season opener on Saturday, April 17 at 12 PM.
