Blanche Leads Dragons to 15-9 Win Over Riverhawks

Columbia, MD - A big second quarter was the difference in a close contest as Howard CC was able to defeat Anne Arundel for a second time this season, this time by the score of 15-9.

The first quarter saw the two teams exchange goals with Drew Goode (Gambrills MD/Arundel) and Cole Blanche (Mount Airy, MD/Linganore) finding the back of the net for Howard. The game changed in the second quarter when the Dragons' Brennan Treacy (Woodbine, MD/Saint Pauls) scored a man-up goal just one minute in. This started a snowball effect with Goode adding his second of the game just a minute later who then set up Treacy's second. Goode completed a first half hat trick then Nick Hinton (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) scored a second man-up goal with Blanche scoring just 40 seconds before halftime to make it six unanswered goals in a shut out quarter for Howard.

Hinton would go on to score two more man-up goals in the second half as the Dragons scored on the first five extra man opportunities they had in the game. Blanche scored two more goals within one minute of each other in the third quarter to extend Howard's lead to 11-4.

Anne Arundel would not go down easily, scoring four straight goals going into the early parts of the fourth quarter as they put pressure on the Dragons, but goalkeeper Liam Collins (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) came through with big saves down the stretch on his way to a 13 save performance and his first collegiate win. With Howard needing to stop the Anne Arundel momentum, they turned to sophomore Jackson Krasny (Hagerstown, MD/Saint Maria Goretti) who scored goals on back to back possessions as the Dragons scored four straight to put the game away.

The Dragons will get some time to recuperate before traveling to CCBC Essex for a huge game on Friday, April 23 at 7 PM.
