Columbia, MD - In a strong effort by the Dragons against their familiar rivals, Howard CC was able to grit out a 3-0 victory over the Anne Arundel Riverhawks.
The Dragons saw a much better start to the game compared to their season opener at Hagerstown, and were able to control the bulk of possession. Second year forward
Yassine Kamara (Hyattsville/Parkdale) came off the bench and made a huge impact in the 20th minute as she took the ball down the field and cut a pass inside to a wide open
Lillian Scott (Catonsville/Catonsville) for a cool finish to take the lead.
Scott doubled up the Dragons lead just five minutes later when a
Hailey Murray (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) punt was misplayed by the Riverhawk defense which sent Scott in on goal for her first half brace.
Howard continued to add on chances and increased the pressure in the second half. After a foul deep in Anne Arundel territory,
Madison Dzubak (Highland/River Hill) hit a curling free kick into the bottom left corner of the net for her first goal of the season. The Dragons had a few more chances late led by the tenacity of
Tessa Cinotti (Laurel/Reservoir), who finished with a team high five shots including a rifle that cracked the top corner of the post.
That was more than enough as Murray went on to make six saves and record her second shutout victory of the season.
The Dragons will next face arguably their most important regular season test as they host the CCBC Essex Knights on Wednesday, September 15 at 4 PM.
