Columbia, MD - A pair of Dragons scored their first ever collegiate goals to lead the Dragons strong first half to beat the Brookdale Jersey Blues 3-1 in the Dragon Invitational tournament.
After struggling to get a foothold on the game, the Dragons finally broke through in the 28th minute as a through ball by Amy Rodriguez was chipped beautifully by
Anna Burns (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) over the Brookdale keeper and into the net for her first collegiate goal.
Rodriguez scored just three minutes later as she fought through the Jersey Blues defense to score her first goal. The great stretch for the Dragons continued as three minutes later,
Remi Rollins (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) set a pass perfectly forward for
Tahlia Stangherlin (Hanover, MD/Pallotti) who scored her first goal of the season to make it a commanding lead.
Brookdale would score a consolation goal in the second half and the Dragons continued to threaten the Brookdale goal with great chances from Stangherlin and
Tessa Cinotti (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) in particular.
Hailey Murray (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made seven saves on the day, some of which in spectacular fashion to earn the win.
The Dragons will close out the Dragon Invitational when they take on Lackawanna College at 1 PM on Sunday, September 19.
