Dragons Fly Past Falcons 9-1

Columbia, MD - The Dragons came out strong, scoring two goals very early on to help themselves take the early lead against the Lackawanna Falcons which led to a 9-1 victory in the final game of the Dragon Invitational tournament.

Tahlia Stangerlin (Hamilton, Ontario/Pallotti) started things well for the first goal of the game in the opening minutes as Tessa Cinotti (Laurel, MD/Reservoir)a and Lillian Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) combined to assist her on the fast break. Not even a minute later, Sofie Jobst (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) hit a powerful free kick that forced the Falcons goalie to mishandle the ball and allow Tessa Cinotti (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) to get her first goal of the season.

Dragons kept their foot on the gas pedal and midway through the first half, as Molly Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) got her boomed a long shot that curled into the top right corner of the goal. Lackawanna tried to answer the Dragons immediately after, but Hailey Murray (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made a great diving save as she went on to stop four shots in the game.

Amy Rodgriguez (Takoma Park, MD/High Point) joined the scoring frenzy as she had a long shot that tipped off the top of the Lackawanna goalkeeper's hands but still found a way to trickle into the goal. Yassine

In the 36th minute, Nichols hit a short corner kick to Riley Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) who returned the ball back to Nichols. Her cross found Remi Rollins (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) who passed the ball up to Yassine Kamara (Hyattsville, MD/Parkdale) in the box as she was able to quickly turn and score a left footed goal for her first of the season. The Falcons were able to bounce back by scoring a goal with late in the first half, but the Dragons went into halftime with a 5-1 lead.

The Dragons did not let up in the second half as a perfectly weighted through ball by Scott set up Tahlia Stangerlin (Hamilton, Ontario/Pallotti) on a one-on-one breakaway that Stangerlin coolly slotted into the net. Isa Kreutner (Salisbury, MD/James M Bennett) found her way on the score sheet for the first time this season thanks to Cinotti's third assist of the game before Cinotti added her second goal of the game on an Amy Rodriguez helper. Kreunter nearly added a second goal as well, but her shot was saved by the Lackawanna goalkeeper only to see the ball deflect off a Falcons defender and into the net for an own goal.

The Dragons will get some time to rest before getting back to action on Saturday, September 25 at 2 PM as the Potomac State Catamounts come to town.
