Hagerstown, MD - In their season opener, the Dragons women's soccer team were able to slog through a hard fought game to earn a 2-0 victory.
Howard got out to a good start to the season, scoring midway through the first half as
Lillian Scott (Catonsville/Catonsville) set up
Molly Nichols (Mt. Airy/Glenelg) for her first collegiate goal to get the Dragons ahead early. Scott nearly headed one in just a minute later but was stopped by the Hawks goalkeeper.
The Dragons doubled their lead early in the second half as a foul in the Hagerstown goal box resulted in a penalty kick for Howard.
Jenna Naumann (Sykesville/Century) placed the ball on the spot and calmly slotted the ball into the net to take the 2-0 lead.Â
Hagerstown was able to hang around and keep the game close, even earning a penalty kick in the final minutes of the game that
Hailey Murray (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) was able to parry away to preserve the shutout and complete the victory.
Howard will enjoy their home opener on Friday, September 10 at 4 PM as they take on Anne Arundel.
