Columbia, MD - The Dragons gave quite a scare to the powerhouse Harford Fighting Owls, but ultimately fell 3-1.
Howard came out firing strong, with kills by four different players and a couple of aces had the Dragons ahead 8-4. With the Fighting Owls fighting back,
Jessica Hendricks (Woodbine, MD/Covenant Life) slammed down a couple of big hits to keep Howard ahead 20-17. Harford climbed back once more, surviving a set point and earning one of their own at 25-24. The Dragons hit right back with kills from
Morgan Conner (Sandy Spring, MD/Sherwood), Hendricks, and
Micaela Murray (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) to close out the set 27-25.
The second set was a different story as Harford led from wire-to-wire and the same occurred to set three as Harford took the 2-1 lead in sets.
A fire was lit under the Dragons at the start of set four as they played immaculate defense with highlight reel worthy plays from Conner and
Eryca Sterling (Columbia,MD/Wilde Lake) to battle in every point. Despite being down much of the set, a big rally late saw the Dragons fight off a couple of match points before falling in the final set 25-23.
Conner led the way with 13 kills while
Mikaela Brewer (Gaithersburg, MD/Covenant Life) finished with 26 assists. The Dragons will play in their final game of the regular season at home on Friday, October 14 at 6 PM when Chesapeake College comes to town. The Dragons will honor their two sophomores at the game in what should be an emotional sophomore night.
