Cameron Watts (Columbia, MD/Boys Latin) put on a memorable shooting display to power the home town team to a huge 70-63 win over regional rival Garrett Lakers. The win marked the 35th consecutive home victory for the Dragons in anĀ
A low scoring first half saw the Dragons jump out to the early lead with
Andrew Mills (Owings Mills, MD/Newtown) showing toughness in the paint to surge Howard ahead 10-5. Garrett went on a solid run to take a six point lead, but a three pointer byĀ Watts and a couple of jumpers by
Trea Keys (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) pulled Howard back to a 33-28 deficit at halftime.

The Dragons came out with a fire in the start of the second half, with a monster dunk by
Benjamin Murphy (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) setting the tone followed by back-to-back three pointers by
Marquis Freeman (Manassas, VA/Fork Union Prep) to give Howard the lead back. That is when Watts came off the bench to score 11 straight points midway through the second half and 17 points in the final 20 minutes to provide the offense Howard needed to complete the comeback, erasing a seven point deficit. Garrett took the lead back briefly, but an old-fashioned three point play by
Jalen Bowie (Federick, MD/Federick) put the Dragons ahead for a lead they would not relinquish again.
Foul trouble mounted for the Dragons as all five starters had to manage the issue with three of them eventually fouling out of the game. The bench picked up the slack with Keys,
Ethan Wilson (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park), and
Stephen Doar (Juba, South Sudan/Minnesota Prep) providing valuable minutes to close out the game.
Watts game high 20 points was followed by
Andrew Mills (Owings Mills, MD/Newtown) with a solid game at 12 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Keys added nine points on 3-3 shooting from the floor and Murphy finished with eight.
The Dragons will have another tough test at home on Saturday, November 19 when the Frederick Cougars come to town.
