Columbia, MD – A strong defensive effort by the Dragons combined with a second half offensive surge led Howard to a convincing 52-34 win in their home opener.
A slow start to the game for both games that saw Howard take an 18-12 lead into the halftime break.
Howard started to find the bottom of the net more in the second half led by the strong post presence of
Mikiyah Mallett (Pasadena, MD/Old Mill) who dominated the pain with 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Dragons continued to work the ball inside, scoring 32 of their points in the paint with
Julia Harrington (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City College) adding nine points and nine rebounds to the cause.
The Dragons defense held fast throughout, forcing the Riverhawks into 23 turnovers and scoring 12 fast break points off them.
Howard will next host Westchester Community College on Friday, November 11 at 5 PM
