Frederick, MD - The Dragons shot 9-18 from the floor in the first quarter to jump out to a big early lead on their way to defeating the Frederick Cougars 68-57 to improve to 6-1 in conference play.
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) showed off why she is one of the best players in the region, scoring 12 points in the opening 10 minutes including a couple of three points along with three steals. She cooled off a bit after that, but the strong Howard defense forced the Cougars into shooting 34% from the field including an 8-28 shooting from three point range.Â
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also getting help in the paint from
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) who pulled down 11 boards.Â
Tajah Goodman (Washington, D.C./South Hagerstown) and
Sarah Deese (Woodbine, MD/Century) scored 11 points each as the two guards combined to make five from long range as part of a balanced offensive performance for the ladies in maroon.
The Dragons will look to continue their strong season against regional rivals when they host Montgomery College on Monday, February 14 at 5 PM.
